DAIRY FARMING IS PART OF A LONG AND PROUD AGRICULTURAL TRADITION IN NEW ZEALAND.

The Bigger Picture
New Zealand leads the world when it comes to dairy farming, originating in 1814 and accounting for over a third of the world’s international dairy trade, we are the world's eighth largest milk producer, feeding more than 100 million people worldwide. Traditionally dairy production started in the wetter parts of the country: Waikato, Taranaki, Southland, Northland, Horowhenua, Manawatu and Westland. Production began to be centralised in the second half of the 20th century, with huge production facilities in Whareora (near Hawera), Te Rapa, Edendale and Timaru. These are the four largest production facilities in the Southern Hemisphere. Edendale is also currently the largest dairy factory in the world by milk intake.

Continual Environment Practices : High Quality Milk Produciton.
Our world class dairy farmers are committed to improving the environmental performance and impact the industry has on our land. Thousands of kilometres of waterways have been fenced. Hundreds of new bridges and culverts have been built to stop cows walking through water on their way to the dairy, and streams are being planted with natives to improve biodiversity and stream health. It is a sign of our commitment to continuously look at improving the sustainability, welfare and environmental impact of dairy farming in a bid to keep our clean green image.
Our pastures are watered regularly through irrigation, most of which originates from our clean fresh water ways making our milk a world class product of nature, starting with green grass, clear water and healthy cows. In May 2003 we signed the Dairying and Clean Streams Accord (DCSA) which was an agreement between us, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry for the Environment, and Local Government New Zealand to establish an initiative designed to contribute towards the clean, healthy freshwater resources. High quality Dairy farming is what comes naturally to us, and we strive to maintain our status as world leading producers of nutritious milk products.
